Tips for Computer & Electronics Claims

For Water Damage

Did you know that the "boards" in your computer and electronic equipment were washed in clean water before they were installed?

Clean water will not damage computers or other electronic equipment as long as the equipment is dry before it is operated. In fact, even if your equipment is soaked with dirty water, it can often be cleaned with no damage to the equipment.

If you have a computer or other electronic equipment that gets wet:

  • Do not operate your equipment! If it is off, do not turn it on. If it is on when it gets wet, turn it off! Do not try to run software in the equipment.
  • Contact your agent to report your claim.
  • Your agent will have a Claims Representative contact you. Your claims representative will be able to help you find a firm that can properly inspect your equipment to determine the extent of the damage.

For Smoke Damage

After a fire, your computer or other electronic equipment may be covered in smoke. Often these items can be cleaned and restored to use with no damage.

If you have a computer or other electronic equipment that has smoke damage:

  • Do NOT operate your equipment! If it is off, leave it off. If it is on, turn it off.
  • Contact your agent to report your claim.
  • Your agent will have a Claims Representative contact you. Your claims representative will be able to help you find a firm that can properly inspect your equipment to determine the extent of the damage.
